The Lost Lover

I'll find my lover
Whose shadows I have been chasing
Whose footprints are almost washed away by the rain
But I have been taught his ways
And his paths I have understood well
Yet my lover refuses to come to me
Or let me near him
He slips away from between my fingers saying
"There is more to me"
The most I have seen is the most minute of what he has to offer he claimed.

I'm sure I will find my lover
Who several men  has chased
Some failed, some fainting; others still in pursuit of him
But the way of the spirit is narrow, only one man and the Holy Ghost
I know it would be tough
The road will be crooked
But it is my Lover I will find at the end of the race

When I find my lover
I will behold his face and tell him all about my journey
Though he saw it .
I will let him see the scars and let his eyes run over them
I will weep for joy yet for the mistakes
And let myself find peace in his embrace
Because through it all it was my lover I was chasing.
It is him I have found amongst all other things.
